The spinous spider crab is also called "spider crab". It must be bought alive. 

Connoisseurs consider that the spider crab has a better flavour than the edible crab. But it is not very popular outside the main regions of production ( Normandy and Brittany ) and Spain.

They are available from France, UK an Ireland mainly from april to august.
